Timeless Heirloom Old Cut Engagement Ring

Have you ever seen an 'old cut diamond'? Also known as "old European cut" or "old mine cut," it was a popular style before modern diamond cutting techniques were developed. You might find these diamonds in heirloom or vintage jewellery, possessing a unique charm and character unlike modern cuts.

Rich in history and sentimental value, this client came to us with this diamond in hopes that we could provide it with a new home. Though it doesn’t have perfect symmetry or precise facets, it radiates an irreplaceable timeless beauty and vintage charm.

We wanted to preserve this diamond’s heritage, choosing to embrace its vintage appeal rather than recutting it to modern standards. The slight imperfections and unique faceting tell a story of their own, which we felt should be celebrated rather than altered. By doing so, we maintain the history of the heirloom while mounting the diamond in a modern setting.

At Won Diamond, our wonderful design team crafted a beautiful ring that beautifully complements the old-cut diamond, while incorporating the essence of the past and present. The six-claw setting highlights the diamond’s vintage characteristics while adding a contemporary touch. We also added a delicate pavé setting along the shoulders of the band to accentuate the vintage charm of the centre stone and enhance its natural beauty.

This redesign project reflects our commitment to honouring the past while embracing the future. The final piece is a beautiful synthesis of history and modernity, preserving the sentimental value of the heirloom diamond and presenting it in a fresh, elegant light.
